Sejak umur 7 tahun ia yatim piatu dan diangkat oleh Mba Bunga alias Mas Bambang pemilik salon &#8216;Mawar&#8217;. Meski hidup bersama banci namun Rahmat tumbuh menjadi lelaki tulen yang pintar, baik, soleh dan berbakti</span><br /><span>Salon &#8216;Mawar&#8217; berhadapan dengan rumah Ratih, janda muda yang sudah 2 tahun ditinggal mati suaminya. Diam-diam Rahmat menaruh hati pada Ratih. Namun janda lain yang tinggal di daerah itu, Mpok Sari, naksir berat sama Rahmat. Ia bahkan selalu mengirim makanan ke salon &#8216;Mawar&#8217; dan secara sepihak gembar gembor kalau Rahmat adalah calon suaminya, namun Rahmat dengan sopan selalu menolak dan menghindar.</span><br /><span>Saking cemburunya, Mpok Sari pun tega melakukan fitnah agar warga memusuhi Ratih. Ratih berusaha menyangkal setiap berita miring tentang dirinya namun Ratih tak punya kekuatan untuk mempertahankan kebenaran. Meski harus berjuang mati-matian, semangat Rahmat untuk membela Ratih tak pernah surut.&#8221;</span></p>

<p>Robert Gardner, Nationwide&#8217;s chief economist, says: &#8220;Sluggish demand for homes combined with only a relatively gradual rise in the supply of available properties has helped to keep property prices relatively stable.&#8221;</p>

<p>Nationwide says the inactivity had also affected property transactions with the 204,000 completed deals in  the second quarter of 2011 the lowest total for two years.</p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p>On the less volatile three months measure, prices in July rose by 0.3%, also little changed from the previous month.</p>

<p>House prices have risen or remained unchanged for six of the seven months so far in 2011, with the highest increase being 0.6% in February.</p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p>Gardner says the stable market partly reflected the uncertain economic climate, but adds there had also been evidence of a trend away from ownership, especially among the younger members of the population.</p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p>He adds: &#8220;The trend is part of a reflection of stretched affordability. House prices remain relatively high compared to incomes and together with more demanding deposit requirements this is dissuading or at least delaying some first-time buyers from entering the market.&#8221; </p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p>In June, the Genesis Housing Association reported that the proportion of people who are homeowners had dropped from a peak of 70.9% in 2003 to 67.4% in 2009/10.</p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p>The group said if the current trend continues, only 60% of the population, or 15.5 million people, would own their own home by 2025 &#8211; 1.9 million fewer than now, while around a quarter of households would rent their home from the private sector.</p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p>Nationwide&#8217;s latest report suggests prices are rising slower than the index from bank Halifax, which earlier this month reported prices rose 1.2% month on month in June with the average home costing 163,049.</p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p>Matt Hutchinson, from house share website  Spareroom.co.uk, says: &#8220;Properties aren&#8217;t selling because what  buyers are prepared to pay falls well short of what sellers are willing, or  able, to accept.</p>
<p>&#013;<br />
&#8220;The days of young couples buying their  first home in their early twenties are all but over.  Within a matter of years we have transitioned from a culture of property  ownership to property rental.&#8221;</p>

<p>On Tuesday, Scottish Power announced average increases of 19% for gas and 10% for electricity, to come into effect on 1 August  (see Scottish Power to hike prices news story). </p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p> The rise could see 2.4 million households on typical dual fuel bills pay an extra 175 a year, and with Energyhelpline predicting it&#8217;s only &#8220;a matter of time&#8221; before other  members of the Big Six increase their bills, now is the time for millions to switch providers and consider fixing, especially those who can&#8217;t afford a huge jump. </p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p>MoneySavingExpert.com consumer products analyst Archna Luthra says: &#8220;Anyone who is concerned about rising energy costs should urgently consider switching to a fixed tariff before prices jump and cheap fixed deals totally disappear.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p><strong>Should I fix?</strong></p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p>With a fixed or capped energy tariff, the price per unit of energy cannot rise during the term of a deal, which usually varies between one and five years, whereas a variable tariff can fluctuate up or down with price changes at any point. </p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p>Fixes are more expensive than online tariffs at current prices, at a typical 1,000 per year for the best dual fuel deal, rather than a typical 930 for the best variable dual fuel offer.</p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p>But it would only take an 8% jump to make the fixed rate the best option. </p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p>A typical home on a standard tariff pays an average 1,150 a year so many will instantly save by moving to a fix or an online variable deal.</p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p>Mark Todd, director of Energyhelpline, says: &#8220;You can still get a fix until 30 September 2012 for 1,009 or  until 30 March 2014 for 1,084 a year. </p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p>&#8220;Switching will save the average  household 643 over the next three years versus the do-nothing option which can  only lead to more pressure on their already overstretched budgets as the cost of  the average standard tariff shoots up inexorably.</p>
<p>&#013;</p>
<p>&#8220;These options will only be  available for a limited period. Tens of thousands of customers are switching  every day so if you want to grab a fixed rate at a low price you really need to  do it now.&#8221;</p>
